Ski
Camp 2004 "SKAMP"
Over 30 adventurous Guides, Leaders and Ranger Guides worked hard all year to
fundraise the money to help go on our unforgettable Ski Camp.
We travelled by bus to Mt Buller and stayed at the University Ski Club Lodge
for a weekend of dazzling downhill skiing. We arrived at the mountain, checked
into our bunkrooms in the beautiful lodge and went to hire our skis and poles or
snowboards so we could get on the slopes first thing Sat morning. After a lovely
Guides Own it was time for bed.
The morning came and we rushed through a hot breakfast before heading into
ski school. We were organised into groups of similar skiing ability - in fact
most of us had never skiied before! We all wore beanies and scarves we had made
in our 'group colour' - we certainly made an impact on the slopes :)
After ski school we stayed in our skiing groups and skiied around the slopes
with the leader or parent in charge of our group. It was snowing like crazy - so
beautiful!
Back to the lodge for a hot lunch before more skiing in the afternoon. In the
evening we helped cook food for all the ppl in the lodge and then had a great
campfire around the open fire in the lodge communal area.
Sunday morning was more ski school and a little free-skiing in our groups
before we met at a cafe for lunch on the mountain. By the time we left the
slopes almost every girl had skiied down Bourke St so we all learned a huge
amount! Then we had to pack up and tidy the lodge, return our skis to the shop
and before we knew it we were back on the bus home - saying goodbye to all the
new snow! It was a brilliant weekend away - can't wait for the next one!
:)
Thanks again to the parents who volunteered to come with us and look after
the ski groups - we couldn't have done it without you.
Note: I couldn't take the digital camera on the slopes, so I'm still waiting
for 'snow' photos - here are some 'inside' shots...
